Other issues mum's may need support for -
A disappointing birth.
Often new mums are told that the only thing that matters about their birth is that the mum and the baby are well. However I believe that the woman's own feelings and experiences are also hugely important, and that a negative birth experience can have a big impact on a women, sometimes leaving them feeling like a failure, or even feeling shell shocked.
I recently completed Masters research looking at birth experience and how it affected women. I wanted to explore what set some women up for disappointment, what transpired during the birth to make it upsetting, the feelings this caused for the women, and how they processed their experiences later.
It became clear there is a real need for women to have a forum to process their story in an accepting and supportive environment. If you are a new mum and you would like counselling, but find it difficult to leave the house with your baby, I can offer you counselling in your home, or we can arrange a convenient location, or we can have a counselling session via Skype.

"I found the sessions with Michelle very helpful in unpacking a lot of hurt and emotion surrounding a traumatic birth. Michelle made sure that the environment was safe and supportive and we only shared what we were comfortable sharing. She also gave us practical strategies for dealing with the hurt so that we could view the same birth from a more balanced perspective."
